Meadow Lake to host the 2012 Saskatchewan Summer Games

Media Release:

The Saskatchewan Games Council announced the community of Meadow Lake as the host of the 2012 Saskatchewan Summer Games.

Darrell Baker, Saskatchewan Games Council board member, made the announcement at a media conference in Meadow Lake on Friday January 29th, 2010.

“The Council is thrilled to awarded the 2012 Saskatchewan Games to Meadow Lake. The Saskatchewan Games has never been hosted in a community this far North, and we are excited to see how this region of the province will add a new dimension to the Games,” said Baker.

The Council chose Meadow Lake as the host of the 2012 Saskatchewan Games after conducting a site evaluation. ”We visited several of the prospective sport and non sport venues and were very pleased with what we saw,” said Lorne Lasuita, the Provincial Games Consultant. He added, “Upon our review of the community and its facilities we are confident that Meadow Lake will be able to stage an excellent Saskatchewan Games.”

Mayor, Darwin Obrigewitsch, expressed his confidence in his community’s ability to host the event. He explained, “I truly believe that this is one of the largest showcase events that Meadow Lake and the surrounding area have been involved in. I think that this event will showcase all we have to offer in this part of the province.”

Lori Thompson, Chamber of Commerce Admin and a representative of the 2012 Saskatchewan Summer Games Bid Committee expressed her excitement at being awarded the Games. She said, “Being apart of the bid committee that brought the 2012 Games to Meadow Lake has been such a rewarding experience, not just the fact that our bid was accepted, but in getting to work with the most valuable resource Meadow Lake has to offer, it’s people.”
