Baseball Venue

Spring Update

Meadow Lake has a long history in involvement in the sport of baseball. The city has hosted numerous competitive baseball competitions over the years and won the Senior A2 Provincials in 2011. The local baseball organization, committed supporters and the city have initiated and carried out continuous improvements to the facilities for baseball.  However, for the upcoming Summer Games, there was a need to once again, update the facilities.

On the main diamond, the red shale infield was removed, irrigation lines installed and turf laid down.
New red shale is yet to be brought in for the area around the infield.

The seating at the diamond was limited so the Games Committee included the construction of a grandstand with a small concession area, officials’ room, storage and bathrooms as part of this legacy project.

So, construction began.....

..and the cement poured!

The weather this fall cooperated to allow us to have everything ready for the construction of the grandstand in the spring of 2012 and functional for the 2012 baseball season and Saskatchewan Summer Games.

A sound system sponsored by several local baseball supporters will be installed in the grandstand once it is constructed to ensure the crowds know the batters, stats and score!

A huge thank you to the Ron’s Plumbing and Heating, Thompson Plumbing and Heating, Al MacFarlane (Meadow Lake Properties Ltd.), the Carpenter High School Football team, Tom Gray and Transition Place School students, and all the other countless volunteers. Our volunteers hauled, dug, watered, and laid sod or created plans, secured funding and enlisted  the support and involvement of trades people under the leadership of Kevin Hubbard and Glen Winkler in the development  of this first class venue! Let’s Play Ball!!

The frame begins to go up!

Despite the chilly weather and snow still on the ground, the guys were out hard at work!

.. and the bleachers are put together!

The baseball venue is starting to come together with the finishing touches being added this spring!  Once again, thank you to Al MacFarlane (Meadow Lake Properties Ltd.) and his crew for the construction of a grandstand with a small concession area, officials’ room, storage and bathrooms.  Thank you to Kevin Hubbard and Glen Winkler and their volunteers for looking after the improvements to the field.  As well, thanks to Paul Kuffert and his crew of volunteers for the big job of building the bleachers.  And finally, a big thank you goes out to all the people who volunteered their time helping in the construction of the baseball venue!
